Microblading
Microblading Eyebrows
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure where the pigment is applied to the epidermis layer of the skin, it does not go into the dermis layer of the skin as a tattoo would. See below for more information, and tips for best results.
We shape and outline your eyebrows to the thickness that you want to achieve. Once we tweak and perfect your new shape, our team uses a manual handheld tool that has the needles assembled in a blade-like form to embroider single hair strokes in your new shape. You will then come back in 6 weeks for a touch up which includes additional strokes of color to make it look fuller and adds dimension. It can last 6 months up to 2 years depending on how well your skin will hold the pigment.

The Process
The process can take up to 3 hours or as quick as 90mins. This all depends and varies on the look of the brows, the amount of strokes needed, the pain threshold and if and how long any numbing is required. The actual needling only takes 15mins per brow. It is more the mapping and prep which takes up most the time.
How long does it take to heal? Is there any downtime?
The brows will be slightly red and may feel tender or sore. The pigment will also look quite dark and darken over the next few days as it heals and scabs over like a tattoo. Do not pick these and follow aftercare and ointment application and this should settle within a few days. There is no downtime and you can get back to normal activity after.
Maena will provide you with appropriate aftercare to undertake at home, to ensure the very best result.
In the following days the color will fade upto 40%. And will take 30 days to fully heal.
Is a top up needed?
Yes! The top up is vital as certain areas may not retain or hold the pigment and would need refining. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils may lighten the pigment.
Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color which will last at least a year.
This is carried out any time between 6-8 weeks. This allows the brows enough time to heal and return to its natural state ready to be refined.
Permanent Make up is NOT recommended for any client who are or have the following
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Diabetes
Undergoing chemotherapy (consult your doctor first)
Viral infections / diseases / sickness (flu /cold)
Epilepsy
Pacemaker or heart problems
Had an organ transplant
Psoriasis near the treated area or skin irritations such as acne, sunburn, or rashes.
Botox in the last two weeks
Sunburnt
Accutane in the last year
On blood thinners / heart medication
Has Thyroid / Graves’ disease (medication may cause pigment not to retain properly)
NOTE: Smoking will cause pigment to fade prematurely and anesthetics will not last as long.
Microblading is an art and NOT an exact science! Each healed microblade varies client to client based on their skin and lifestyle. We make no guarantees about your healing retention but assure you that we will provide you with the best service
What is the process of Microblading?
Numbing stage – A topical an aesthetic is applied. This takes up to 60mins using a topical ointment. Whilst this is settling on the brows your consultation and pigment choice shall be recapped along with the look you are after.
The face and brows will be mapped to create the look you are after, analyzing your face shape, symmetry, by measuring and ensuring they are equal and suited to your face. Any hairs outside of this working area is tidied up.
The numbing cream is then removed and the pigmenting process can begin.
Smooth and swift featherweight strokes are created into the skin using the hand tool dipped in pigment to create hair lines. One brow is etched and left to absorb the ink, then the other brow is worked on. (approx 15min per brow)
The pigment is sealed on the brows and left to retain for a further 5minutes and then given a light wash to remove residue.
Aftercare is discussed and a healing ointment is given for you to apply. This is vital for the pigment to retain and last. Over the next few days the brows will darken, change color, may fade or become flaky. Have a look at the image on the sidebar. This is completely normal. And it takes around 30 days for it to settle and reveal its final color.
In 6-8 weeks you would need a top up session, where the healed brows are re-analysed and further strokes can be added.
Note: Patch test and consultation must be carried out prior to your treatment.
Due to the nature of the detailing required we humbly request no guests to be brought into the procedure room to ensure a sterile environment. Therefore we kindly request that you arrive unaccompanied to your appointment.
